Kayak and Snorkel Maui's North Coast!

The hidden gem of Maui is the amazingly clear and untouched snorkeling conditions found just off shore along the Napili coast, Kapalua Bay and in the Honolua Bay marine reserve, as only seen on the Escapade excursion.

During April - September, Escapade departs Monday through Saturday at 7:15am from D.T. Fleming Beach Park, just adjacent to the wonderous Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, and just a stone's throw from the Kapalua Bay Hotel.

After a short yet thorough introduction, the guide will lead you northward for about 15-20 minutes of paddling. The whole time heading North you'll be keeping your eyes open for the Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins. At any moment the dolphins can show up, and when they do the trip gets detoured to cater to that experience. Just imagine how wonderful the warm morning glow will feel as you paddle against phenomenal beauty, through 78 degree Hawaiian waters, breathing in the sweet South Pacific breezes of Kapalua.

Upon arrival at each of the 3 snorkeling locations*, the guide will hook all the kayaks together and safely drop an anchor in a sandy patch so that everyone may relax and get their mask and fins on. Snorkel with dolphins, turtles and more. Everyone who wants to, gets in the water and is free to snorkel on their own. That said, the most fun will be had if you stay close to your guide in the water, as they will be pointing out unique marine life, snapping underwater digital photos, and leading the way to the best regions along each reef. It is not uncommon to see tons of turtles, eels, octopus, a plethora of colorful tropical reef fish, and even the occasional white tip shark.

If the conditions are right tours will take advantage of the local currents and do a nice lengthy drift snorkel, thus staying in the water longer and making the return paddle shorter. The trip concludes at approximately 11am with a delicious beach lunch to cap off a relaxing day of kayaking, snorkeling, and enjoying the warm Maui sunshine!

If you're one of the lucky few who will be coming to Maui during the long Summer enjoyed in the South Pacific, you should definitely consider this trip. Due to the intermediate nature of Escapade, age 12 is the youngest age allowed on the trip.

Lunch selections are subject to change without notice. In addition, the portions are on the smaller side and it is highly recommended that guests with a large appetite bring additional rations and/or make other arrangements.

Why is Excapade only available April through September?

This dynamite adventure, a definite customer favorite, takes place along the phenomenal Northwest Maui Coastline just adjacent to Kapalua. During the Winter months, the prevailing weather conditions on the North Coast call for larger surf and windier and wetter conditions. In fact, the exact area where this trip takes place, is, in the Winter, a world class surfing spot! Once April rolls around, the planet Earth adjusts its angle and the direction of the surf patterns change and the wild Winter gives way to beautiful, calm and absolutely pristine Summer conditions that make Escapade a kayaking trip you won't soon forget.

How often are dolphins seen?

The wild Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins are an elusive and majestic species. Many people choose to go on ESCAPADE specifically to have the potential opportunity to see the dolphins up close and personal. Over the course of the Escapade season (April-September) the dolphins are seen on average about 50-60% of the time.

Do we actually swim with the dolphins?

Spinner Dolphins are something that Maui Eco Tours treats with the same protection that Humpback Whales enjoy. What that means is that tours are out to enjoy the company and thrill of seeing the dolphins, but at the same time respect them as a species and remain a safe distance away. In the past, guests have definitely encountered them while in the water snorkeling at the various stops on Escapade, however no conscious effort is made to seek out dolphins for the purpose of swimming with them.

Please remember that the dolphins consider these areas to be their home. Would you or your family like to have anonymous people inside your own home trying to get "as close to you as possible"?

Does this trip visit Honolua Bay?

Yes it does. 2-3 snorkeling stops are made on any given Escapade trip and Honolua Bay is always one of the favorite snorkeling stops.

Departure Point: D.T. Fleming Beach Park

From Everywhere: (Travel time from South Maui approximately 60 minutes; Travel time from West Maui approximately 15 minutes) Proceed up Highway 30, about 15 minutes beyond Ka'anapali. Once in Kapalua, you will come to Office Road which lead to the Ritz-Carlton. Go BEYOND Office Road and take your 2nd left off the highway. The turn off for D.T. Fleming Beach Park is just after mile marker 31 on Hwy 30, and is marked prior to the turn as the left turn for Lower Honoapiilani Road. When you arrive at D.T. Fleming Beach Park, please park in the overflow parking lot to the left, not in the main parking area closest to the beach on the right. Upon arrival at the meeting place, please report to the Maui Eco Tours van. Occasionally guests arrive early and the guides are still on the beach setting up, but will be there very shortly, and it's best if you simply wait up by the van. Please do not go directly down to the beach, as the guides will lead you down to the beach at the appropriate time.

Guests should meet at this address 15 minutes prior to departure.

This tour must be booked at least 48 hours in advance of your travel date. Your confirmation for this product will be received within 12- 24 hours subject to availability.

Cancellation and No Show Policy:

There is no charge for cancellations prior to 48 hours before the tour departure date. Tours canceled within 48 hours of the departure date and no-shows will be subject to a $25 fee to cover fixed costs.
